BeardedCraft General / Insurance?
« on: June 09, 2013, 02:29:14 am »
Since I died yesterday and lost nearly every enchanted item that I own.. I struck upon an idea.

As a way to help remove some of the excess currency from the server, how about letting players insure specific items against loss?  Cost can be based on item material, type(chest plate takes more material than a sword), how many and what level of enchantments the item has.

That's kinda against the idea here, jake.  The idea is not to give builder more stuff that you can get if you just become vip.. the idea is to make builder different from vip, give reason to want both instead of just skipping over builder for vip.

I never intended for Builder to supersede VIP, just that it should be DIFFERENT than VIP.  As far as the trusted2 rank.. I'm tired and on pain meds.  if that makes it work - awesome. :P

BeardedCraft General / Changes to Builder/Completionist

With the removal of most of the kit commands, builder is the only "free" way to get them back.  You can also just pay, and become VIP.. and get all of the same perks, plus more.  This leaves absolutely no incentive for a VIP to work towards builder.. or even for non-vip's to try and get it, because it's easy to just think "Nah, I'll donate next (whenever) and get all that anyway.)  As such, builder needs to have a few things added or changed.  Nothing unreasonable, or server breaking.. but those of us who are willing to put in the work on builds, able to con(vince) people to sign off on books, and willing to pay the cash for the rank should get something that's outside the norm, which you don't get just for being VIP.

Simple ideas being
  • Additional, unique kits
Ideally these would reflect on the achievement, which is "builder".
An armor kit, including helmet with Respiration and Aqua Affinity on it, and boots with Feather Fall.. say usable every few days - as an example.
Also, maybe a redstone kit that gives a small amount of powder, a couple redstone torches, a repeater or two, maybe a comparator.  (Just enough so that, if you're just shy of finishing a project, you can just /kit it.)
  • Permanent Buffs
Low level buffs that reflect on the achievement, such as Haste or Jump (similar to pyramid effects, but not as powerful as a large pyramid)
  • Admin Shop Access
A small admin shop specially for builders, with a limited selection of items that are a bit more difficult to get. **To prevent econ issues, builders would not be permitted to set up shops selling these item types, or items that can be made from them, if they use the admin shop.
  • Money
Essentially, the Jobs plugin, but limited to builders.  No leveling, just a very small amount of money, and only for placed blocks.  Nothing to get rich on, just a way to get a little extra pocket change for those of us who put in build effort.
  • Commands
Again, nothing game breaking.. one suggestion I saw that was great was /top (put you in the first open space directly above your head)
  • Pets
So far, pets are just for show.. if they're not going to be made combat useable, perhaps a second pet for builders?  Not really related, but it's something different.. and with so few of us shouldn't trouble the server too much (I think)
[/list]

No doubt there are other ideas out there - and likely a lot of "that's not fair!" complaints about these suggestions.. if you don't like 'em, please give us some other ones.  Yes, I'm trying to promote my own rank here, but it's something not very many have worked for (and gotten), even though it's reasonably possible for anybody to get.. given time and effort.

Loosing materials to clag is a separate issue.  I know you don't think it is, but it is.  It's two different exploitation problems that don't necessarily have the same answer.

What you're referring to is things like the stripped desserts.. yes?  Loosing materials to clag isn't a real big deal, if it doesn't destroy the map.  A good example is the huge sugarcane farm Asteria has.  We can mow it down, throw away sugarcane, and there's no damage done to the map.  No desserts stripped, no mountains mowed down.

I'll try to get into my bukkit account and see what I can come up with later today.. but capping the amount of cash a player can earn per day via jobs will solve the problem of excess funds flooding the economy.  No matter how much a player makes by breaking blocks, there will be people who will mow through deserts and the like to get money.  It'd be less, but they'll still do it.  So something else will need to be figured out to protect the BeardedCraftian environment.

Can you set the jobs to pay only on pickup?
The problem with this solution is they'd just pick it up and throw it back down =/

So here's an easy fix (assuming it can be implemented) for the jobs issue.

I sort of agree with paige, but I also disagree.  If I do the work, I want more levels.  (That's just the gimmie in me.)

But to prevent exploitation, an income cap should be set for every player, individually.  So, no matter what job they use and no matter what level they are, they can only make $xx per day via the jobs plugin.  This promotes the concept of players progressing in the jobs, giving them good reason to keep a specific job and work on it for money.. without letting them flood the economy with exploited cash.  All it'll do is shorten the length of time it takes to reach that cash cap for the day.

Rabid, I wasn't saying base the decisions on the player votes.  The idea being twofold, 1 the players feel like they have more input into the future of the server they love so dearly.. and 2 you boss-types have an idea of what the playerbase would like to see happen.  Even if you completely ignore the polls and implement against the votes, at least you'd know what we, the hoard, think.

A joke Rapid.

Also, Nxck.. a problem.  I lost my builder rank in the rollback.. I've got the mil back, but no rank.  Can I send you the money while you're offline, and have you just promote me next time you're on?

So am I.  If you can find one to set up the stuff with we've got plenty of people willing to fill it all in

BeardedCraft General / About the various DJ's we have goin' on now
« on: May 22, 2013, 12:27:26 am »
Any way we can add something to the DJ forum that will show which DJ is currently running their stream?  List of names with red/green lights beside 'em or somethin.  Not sure if it's possible since it's dealing with another website, but it was a random act of brilliance I thought I'd share with you all.

I'm not sure if you're able, but I would suggest possibly checking logs to see if said player was even online during the hours lost in the rollback.  Perhaps there's a server plugin available that will let you log all enchantments to items and who made them within X time period?

Also, I'm sure you've thought of it, but I'd keep a record of who makes replacement requests and how often (based on the number of rollbacks).. just as an aid in identifying people taking advantage.

By the way, I lost a full set of diamond armor, all with protect or fire protect 4, unbreaking 3 on all of it, two stacks of diamond blocks, five dragon eggs, and a stack of Rabid's heads.  can I get a Reimbursement?  8)

For us who are less familiar with you (like myself), can you explain what volcornis is?

I disagree with this in part.  It's not survival if you can run away anytime things get slightly dangerous.  On the flip side, it is fairly inconvenient when I'm just bouncing around from home to home movin' stuff.  I would suggest, instead of removing the timers in non pvp areas, simply remove the 'don't move' portion of it.  Allows us to roam our chests or whatever while waiting for the 3 seconds to click through.  Would also fix the lava issue.. if you can't survive 3 seconds in lava, you were already low on hp anyway.

Suggestion from my end, at least in implementation.

Create a thread (somewhere) for suggestions on correcting the economy, for everyone to spam their ideas in.
Converse about all spouted ideas in the top-secret staff forum.
Ideas that pass said top secret forum get filtered down into the slightly less secret VIP forum, in the form of polls.
Ideas that pass the VIP forum get filtered down to us peasants not in the know.

You may not decide entirely based on the polls, however this way you get a strong sense of what direction the player base thinks you should go for fixing the inflation/millionaire issue.
